Hi, guys!
How’s your reading of A Series of Unfortunate Events going? I have stopped for a while because I had to travel but I want to start the second book tomorrow!
Tired of running with the weight of the world on my back //
Tired of living with my heart always under attack
Hi, guys!
How’s your reading of A Series of Unfortunate Events going? I have stopped for a while because I had to travel but I want to start the second book tomorrow!
badly. every time i pick up the book, i get interrupted D: i’m trying though!
That’s exactly what is happening to me. I pick the book up, something else shows up. I brought two books with me for my trip thinking I’d have a lot of time, ended up not reading a word of the Baudelaires’ adventures :(
I bought some new games and started knitting so I keep finding other things to do other than read!
I had to postpone my start bc I haven’t been able to find the book anywhere 😥 I know I own them, but most of my books are at home in the US and I am currently in France…. So there’s that little hiccup. I think if I can’t find them by the end of the week I will just download the eBook, I just really prefer physical copies
Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. I’m sure you’ll find it! Well, I’ve heard that the audiobook is very well narrated (I can’t really say because my attention spam when it comes to audio books is none) so maybe that could be an option too?
I’ve listened to the first two audiobooks so far. Tim Curry really does a fantastic job! I’ve liked The Bad Beginning a lot but The Reptile Room even more. I have to slow myself down to stretch the first four books until January. I’m so glad I stumbled across your readalong post and finally got to read this amazing series! :)
Do you ever just have a sudden rush of love for books? Like, you love to read in general but you have a very intense moment, similar to an epiphany, where you are just so happy that books are a thing. That you can go from reading a book about a blonde sassy detective to reading about time travel, or go from reading historical fiction to reading about superheroes. It’s just amazing, I’m so glad I get to experience so many stories and lives. That I’m not just confined to my own existence, and that I can lose and yet find myself in books and words.
from your friendly neighborhood librarian:
all books are good books. you are not a “lesser reader” if you only read manga or comic books or a “better reader” for reading academic heavy texts.
reading is reading no matter what it is, be it a graphic novel, a romance, a classic, an audiobook, a picture book, a cookbook, fanfiction, fucking whatever, read what makes you happy
reading is supposed to be fun and don’t let elitism sap any joy out of it
“That’s what I love about reading: one tiny thing will interest you in a book, and that tiny thing will lead you to another book, and another bit there will lead you onto a third book. It’s geometrically progressive - all with no end in sight, and for no other reason than sheer enjoyment”

“I am reading six books at once, the only way of reading; since, as you will agree, one book is only a single unaccompanied note, and to get the full sound, one needs ten others at the same time.” ― Virginia Woolf, The Letters of Virginia Woolf: Volume Three, 1923-1928
The only books you need to be careful with are library books and other people’s books. You know why? Because they aren’t yours.
If you own the book, you own the book and can do whatever you want with it. If you are super careful when reading your books, that’s great! If you break the spine on every book you own, that’s awesome! They are your books!
Respect other people that read differently than you. Y’all need to chill.
I think I suffer from the fear of being a quitter when it comes to reading books. The first time I put down a book because I didn’t want to read it anymore (only 2 chapters in) I felt really guilty and disappointed with myself.
But I think life is too short or whatever to force yourself to read a book you don’t like!!
With the power vested in me by my library degree, I hereby absolve all readers of this post from guilt over unfinished books.
In the name of the Bede, the Bard, and Octavia Butler, amen.
CR: The Hazel Wood - Melissa Albert
I finally started this book yesterday, and then accidentally stayed up until 2:30 a.m. because I couldn’t stop reading.
There was a lot of hype for The Hazel Wood. Having been burned by the last super-hyped book that I read (looking at you, Children of Blood and Bone), I was a little wary of this one. I’ve heard mixed-positive reviews from friends and colleagues, but so far I’m really enjoying it!
